Elite IV Technology Almost Finished?

David Braben said today at the Developer Conference that Elite IV should follow the release of The Outsider, next year.

Elite IV “had not been forgotten”, is a “really ambitious project”, said Braben.

He also talked of how the development of Elite IV has stopped and started a few times now and that the technology for the game had been thrown out a number of times as the team worked to get things right. He also said that a team is actively working on the game at the moment.

BBC TV program “Click” have interviewed David Braben about his Classic space trading game, Elite. The interview seems to focus on how the gaming world has changed from a small individual operation to a multi-billion dollar industry built around huge design studios backed by major publishers. Contrary to most press reports, Braben believes that gaming is really on the up and that new ideas will be forthcoming in the next few years… Watch video.

Frontier Developments are a British game developer, they were founded by David Braben, the engineer responsible for Frontier: Elite 2. Outsider is the project the studio is currently working on, Braben is quoted as saying that the technology being used for The Outsider will aid in the development of… Elite IV.
