I’m 29 years old. I have never felt such a lack of interest in the Olympic Games.

I’m guessing there was an opening ceremony today, because I saw still pictures of it on Yahoo.com. I didn’t even think of watching it… Yet I think I’ve probably watched at least part of every single ceremony since I have been old enough to want to, so what’s different now?

Well, I live in the United States. I haven’t seen any of the build-up I am used to because they simply don’t provide the extensive coverage of Athletics that the BBC do back home. But, the thing is, as much as I’d love to say the problem is bad coverage, it isn’t. The other difference? China.

In Chicago today there was a march on the Chinese Consulate asking for the Chinese to end their occupation of Tibet. China has also refused an Athlete’s visa to travel and compete recently also, the reason being that he wants the Darfur regime (that the Chinese support), to end and has been a campaigner. Then, of course, there’s the little issue of human rights.

Come to think of it, what on earth were the Olympic Committee thinking?!

There has been a recall in the USA of many different types of petfood after some pets have died from kidney failure and many, many more suffered vomiting. One of Sheila’s cats (which live with her parents) was vomiting recently and it’s really pretty scary to think that this could happen to anybodys pet.

By the way, an animal is considered property, so you cannot sue for the death in the same way you could a human being. I am curious however whether you could sue if you have household insurance? I don’t say this because of money, but because whichever company is responsible should probably be made bankrupt to rid the world of them.

Have a nice day. :)

North Korea isn’t getting what it wants. No matter how loud they scream and cry, throw their toys around, nobody wanted to listen. So, they have now gone and got themselves a loudspeaker and a box of firecrackers. They want to be seen, and heard – that’s all.

Plenty of countries around the world have nuclear weapons, and while it’s more scary to see them in the hands of countries we don’t know or understand, I’m very sure that our having them still scares some of the good countries of the world just as much as North Korea having them does to us.

The biggest thing for me is, the last place in this world I would want to piss off is China or Japan. Sorry but, you can piss off the British, the Americans, the Russians all you like – we all fight pretty darned good (Russia especially), but China is a mighty and awesome nation.

Right now, China are standing with Japan and the rest of the world in their opinion on this test and to be honest, I never thought I’d see those guys agreeing on anything…

Tests mean very, very little. Just a few years ago France tested in the South Pacific, nobody really gave a crap… The USA tested over a thousand on it’s own soil, it has only ever launched any in anger during World War II. Testing is a threat, yes – but it could easily be a hollow threat from a weak individual.

Take the time to read this report on China and it’s system of execution.

It is not the volume of execution that concerns me, after all, they may execute as many people as the rest of the world combined, but isn’t their population as much as the rest of the world combined too? A little context is needed I feel.

The bus of execution doesn’t concern me either. Or it wouldn’t – if people were actually guilty of their crime!!!

What does concern me, is that we don’t seem to care what happens in this world. We don’t care, as long as the leaders murder their own people – I saw a stand-up comedy show once from Eddie Izzard, who pointed out that fact. Izzard also said, when a leader invades or murders those in neighboring countries: “after a few years, we won’t stand for that – will we!” I suggest it’s time to do something… I don’t think China has any intention to hurt the rest of the world, only it’s own people.
