Today the Chicago Bears were utterly destroyed by the New England Patriots. I’m not one to smack talk, but I did post a couple of mentions on Facebook about how cold Chicago was going to be, and said “Welcome to Chicago, Patriots” on my Twitter and Facebook. Well, the instant the game finished someone I know who supports the Patriots said: “Your team just got exposed for what it is. A medicore team in a terrible conference.”

Now what was said doesn’t bother me in the slightest: I’m a Bears fan and I’ve been through this a few times, I actually found it really quite funny because every team goes up and down, and the Patriots only have 1 more win (from today) outside of their conference than the Chicago Bears. The Patriots face the Green Bay Packers next week and it would be good for the Bears if the Patriots beat them, but I think I’d quite like to see the Patriots get beaten by a team who place behind my ‘mediocre team from a terrible conference’. Either way, it’s win-win.

I also think it’s funny that someone felt the need to smack talk with someone who doesn’t regularly do it. And I think it’s probably really interesting to be around those people when their team inevitably takes a downward turn… After all, it’s not like a team – a good team – can ever fail to perform, can it Boston? Cough – 86 years – cough.

…and before you mention the Cubs. I don’t give a crap, they suck. ;)

Really nice guy, we didn’t talk to him until he was on his way out, but he took the time to stop, walk back to us and shake our hands. He parted with the words: “Keep cheering for us!”

It’s one hell of a long shot, they have to win every game remaining if they’re going to and that’s no small feat. Against Denver (and actually the last five games or so) the Bears have looked like a different team to the start of the season and really looked like they could win even when they didn’t. The Denver game was so exciting, ending in overtime after things were all-tied at 34-34 after regular play.

Highlights of the Denver vs. Chicago game.

With Benson now injured for the season I think the running game should improve now Wolfe and Peterson are carrying, Grossman will hopefully continue to play his good side out there (any failures attributed to him in the game against Denver were the fault of the Receiver’s and the Offensive Line failing to protect him, in my opinion), and Hester will probably continue to run through the opposing teams for the rest of the season like they don’t even exist. If I remember rightly last year it was when Hester was running in slop that he was able to really do a number on the opposing teams… Statistically the New York Giants are outplaying Chicago for the 2007 season, so this Sunday’s game could be a close game but if Chicago play like we all know they can (but have had trouble reaching) then they’ll win-out.
