A conversation with Streamline.net…

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Well, I recently posted querying if they are the worst host ever. It looks like I posted too soon, the matter obviously wasn’t finished… They continued to try to take money from me, arguing that they host a domain they don’t and trying to make me give them money for nothing! Here’s a full transcript of the support ticket (read from the bottom upwards for proper order - my messages are in bold).

I’ve been with some crackpot hosts but, these guys take the biscuit! If anyone else has any experience with these folks, tell us your tale!

Is it really? So, you accuse me of not abiding by procedures, you try to take money not owed to you, and you give bad service to boot - forcing me to leave in the first place. I will be publicizing this.

Hi Tim Wheatley,

Thanks for your query.

This matter is closed then, you can close this ticket.

http://www.timwheatley.org.uk was deactivated some time ago. I told you I didn’t want to renew that domain and you confirmed it and shut down the domain - go on - try it. It doesn’t resolve.

If you were attempting to contact me about timwheatley.org.uk (which you shouldnt have been - i already told you i dont want it anymore - and you already removed it), then why did you start this by sending me an email saying: “We tried to renew your additional hosting account (photodatabase.org)”?

Hi Tim Wheatley,

Thanks for your query.

We are refering to timwheatley.org.uk ?

I asked my new host who controls the domain:

This domain photodatabase.org is registered through us, if a different registrar is asking for the renewal fee to be paid they are asking in vain because your domain has been registered through us since last year.

If you have further questions on this matter feel free to reply.

Thank you,
Joseph

Hi Tim Wheatley,

Thanks for your query.

If you supply us with the IPS TAG you want to transfer to we will do it for you.

You asked me for IPSTAG for timwheatley.org.uk.

Tell you what, I do not want to renew photodatabase.org. I’d rather lose the domain that stay with you.

Thanks.

Hi Tim Wheatley,

Thanks for your query.

You did not supply us with an IPS TAG so it was not transferred.

So, photodatabase.org was not transferred to another host - AS I REQUESTED - back in December, 2006?

Hi Tim Wheatley,

Thanks for your query.

We are trying to renew photodatabase.org, as this had not been cancelled by you, so is not fraudulent, if it had of been billed we would of happily refunded this for you, unfortunately small claims court threats do not Piss us off it just highlights the fact that you did not abide by the procedures.

We hope you have a good weekend. Have you seen our new support centre? You can visit it at: http://www.streamlinesupport.net

timwheatley.org.uk is registered by us.
timwheatley.org.uk is not on our hosting system.

I just got this email from YOU:

We tried to renew your additional hosting account (photodatabase.org), however there is a slight problem. We tried to renew your hosting account but your credit card was not authorised.

The reason for this can be for many different reasons of which the main 2 we encounter are:

1) Your card has expired.
2) Your card details have changed since you signed up with us.

The required payment is: 11.73 (including VAT)

Can you explain to me what THE HELL you’re doing? I TOLD you that I not want to renew timwheatley.org.uk and as for photodatabase.org - YOU DON’T EVEN HOST THAT DOMAIN anymore! I’d say it’s a bloody good job I don’t have the credit card I used to, because if I did, and you’d taken money from me, I’d have taken you to small claims court - just to piss you off.

I’ll say it again. You do not host photodatabase.org - so forget about it. I do not want to renew timwheatley.org.uk - so leave me alone. I do not think you level of service is worth having, I do not think you offer acceptable support (take this episode as an example), and I do not want you trying to take money from myself and other members in this fraudulent way again - thanks!

Are Streamline.net the Worst Host Ever?

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Here is an email I got this morning from Streamline.net’s billing department:

We tried to renew your additional hosting account (photodatabase.org), however there is a slight problem. We tried to renew your hosting account but your credit card was not authorised.

The reason for this can be for many different reasons of which the main 2 we encounter are:

1) Your card has expired.
2) Your card details have changed since you signed up with us.

The required payment is: 11.73 (including VAT)

So, they talk about two domains: timwheatley.org.uk and photodatabase.org.

timwheatley.org.uk - I sent a support ticket to Streamline.net on 25th August, 2007 telling them that I did not want to renew the domain.

They replied shortly afterwards with:

Please reply and advise what action you would like us to take? Please ensure that in either case you have made backups of your website and hosting space.

I replied with:

I have made backups, please delete all content on the web space and let the domain expire, I no longer require it.

They shut down the domain and replied with:

This account has now been cancelled for you.

Yet today, September 14th, Streamline see fit to try to bill me for a domain that they do not even have active or control.

photodatabase.org - This domain was moved from Streamline.net’s hosting, to Bluehost (one of WordPress.org’s recommended hosts) around December 2nd, 2006.

Yet today, September 14th, Streamline see fit to try to bill me for a domain that they do not even have active or control.

You know, it’s funny, I left Streamline’s hosting because their customer service seemed bad and they struggled far too much to host a simple installation of a retail script (vBulletin), but I did not expect their delusional business-model to keep chasing me after I was long gone. I’d say it’s a good job that I do not own the credit card they attempted to bill anymore, huh?

EDS - Business Services

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

Back when I worked for the British Government, we had a saying whenever our network went down. We used to say it all the time… Our system completely went down at least once a week between 9am and 6pm… You want to know what it was?

“It’s EDS again. I don’t know how they keep this contract.”

I just saw an advertisement on American TV for this company and I was pretty shocked, I didn’t realise that the company was so large. Their advertisement said that they help the London Transport System and it was a typical “that’s what we do” style of corporate advertising that actually gives no information about what they do or who they are.

Well I’ll tell you that from my experiences between 2003-2004, EDS were not capable of sustaining a stable network of computers to a central database, when it worked it was slow and it often crashed completely.

It is extremely annoying to see this company is expanding. I just hope they’ve improved themselves.

Thrustmaster fail to support Microsoft’s new OS

Wednesday, May 11th, 2005

I have just recieved notification from Thrustmaster/Guillemot that they will not be supporting Windows x64. So if you like to keep up to date with technology, don’t put any consideration into using TM/GM products to do it.

Logitech has already released their x64 drivers, for those of us using trial/trade versions of x64.

You expect some companies to maybe take a while to get around to releasing, you don’t expect a company to tell you they decided not to bother…
