It’s gradually beginning to dawn on me that I know very little about world events at the moment. I know all about Cook County (part of Illinois, the state I live in) politics, I know all about the Stacey Peterson (a wife who the press seem to want to make everyone believe was killed by her husband who – until recently – was a Police Officer) investigation, but I have absolutely no idea about anything outside those local events and whatever the President is up to. The worrying thing is: I watch the news every damn day!

Americans do have a bit of a reputation for not knowing a lot about the world and I’m increasingly becoming aware why this is… Although I get my news from the internet mainly, it’s not always the greatest place to find it and FOX News Chicago – as an example – does a pitiful job of covering world events: Their news program starts at 9pm, it ends at 10:35pm, during that time (barring anything vitally important happening internationally) there is a lot of advertising, there is the local news, weather, sports, a little national news and a spot they call “Around the World in 60 Seconds” – which contains all international news that would educate the population.

I’m going to have to subscribe to news podcasts in iTunes again, aren’t I? Sheesh…
