What a surprise! More Muslim weirdness…

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Source: Sky News.

“Imprisoning this lady does not satisfy the thirst of Muslims in Sudan,” said the cleric, Abdul-Jalil Nazeer al-Karouri, a well known hard-liner.

Addressing worshippers, he added: “But we welcome imprisonment and expulsion.

“This is an arrogant woman who came to our country, cashing her salary in dollars, teaching our children hatred of our Prophet Muhammad.”

You absolute fool. The children who named that Teddy Bear Muhammad did so because they love him, all this teacher did was fail to crush that child’s needs like you would have.

Of course the people asking for this woman to be shot for her crimes (!!!) were not mainstream Muslims… But, as always, they were loud enough to be heard damaging the image of Islam throughout the CIVILISED world - again - just what Islam needed.

What’s going on in the world?

Friday, November 30th, 2007

It’s gradually beginning to dawn on me that I know very little about world events at the moment. I know all about Cook County (part of Illinois, the state I live in) politics, I know all about the Stacey Peterson (a wife who the press seem to want to make everyone believe was killed by her husband who - until recently - was a Police Officer) investigation, but I have absolutely no idea about anything outside those local events and whatever the President is up to. The worrying thing is: I watch the news every damn day!

Americans do have a bit of a reputation for not knowing a lot about the world and I’m increasingly becoming aware why this is… Although I get my news from the internet mainly, it’s not always the greatest place to find it and FOX News Chicago - as an example - does a pitiful job of covering world events: Their news program starts at 9pm, it ends at 10:35pm, during that time (barring anything vitally important happening internationally) there is a lot of advertising, there is the local news, weather, sports, a little national news and a spot they call “Around the World in 60 Seconds” - which contains all international news that would educate the population.

I’m going to have to subscribe to news podcasts in iTunes again, aren’t I? Sheesh…

Will the Bears make the playoffs?

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

It’s one hell of a long shot, they have to win every game remaining if they’re going to and that’s no small feat. Against Denver (and actually the last five games or so) the Bears have looked like a different team to the start of the season and really looked like they could win even when they didn’t. The Denver game was so exciting, ending in overtime after things were all-tied at 34-34 after regular play.

Highlights of the Denver vs. Chicago game.

With Benson now injured for the season I think the running game should improve now Wolfe and Peterson are carrying, Grossman will hopefully continue to play his good side out there (any failures attributed to him in the game against Denver were the fault of the Receiver’s and the Offensive Line failing to protect him, in my opinion), and Hester will probably continue to run through the opposing teams for the rest of the season like they don’t even exist. If I remember rightly last year it was when Hester was running in slop that he was able to really do a number on the opposing teams… Statistically the New York Giants are outplaying Chicago for the 2007 season, so this Sunday’s game could be a close game but if Chicago play like we all know they can (but have had trouble reaching) then they’ll win-out.

Call of Duty 4 is Awesome!

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

When I first read that the next Call of Duty would be tackling Modern Warfare, I was pretty excited. With most ‘first-person-shooters’ you find yourself feeling like you won the war all by yourself and with COD that was never a problem. In their previous games (all set in World War II) you were one of many and you got the feeling that if you weren’t there, the war would have carried on. Of course the way they programmed it, where you were required to walk to certain areas or detonate explosives on certain things for the A.I. soldiers to advance was noticable at times. That same problem still exists in COD4, but the gameplay and the challenge posed by the game (even on ‘regular’ difficulty) is enormous, you do again feel like one soldier among many and I absolutely love that feeling of being able to occasionally not be the guy who kicks down the door!

I am nowhere near to completing the game yet, but thought I would upload a video of a mission I liked quite a bit. In this mission you have some ground units (British SAS) who are escorting a Russian informant to safety. You see me doing all the shooting, all the camera/sight movements and all the weapon selection. I do get very close to shooting my own men quite a few times and actually this kind of game gives me way more respect for the armed forces and accept that sometimes it’s probably very easy to commit a Friendly Fire incident (something I’ve posted angrily about in the past).

Number of Weather-related disasters rising?

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

According to Oxfam, the number of weather-related disasters have risen greatly in the past 20-30 years, which I find interesting…

Isn’t it only maybe 150 years at most since we stopped thinking bad weather was the wrath of God?

We also have situations where people now live where they didn’t do hundreds of years ago, most of the south-east of England used to be marsh… If that area floods now, does that mean the world is going bad, or not? Because I don’t consider that to be any reaction to ‘global warming’ I see it to be water going where it can, where it used to be… I’d so like to see a study that actually looked at this type of thing, then discounted all the flooding caused by humans living where either the floodplain or former home of a waterway.

My friends found this kill hysterical. There really was no way I should have been able to pull this kill off I think - not with so little experience and such a low skill level…

I noticed Rackar the instant he flew into the asteroid belt. I switched my view to see where he was flying and when I saw he was heading towards me, immediately started researching his ship to see if I’d be able to destroy it if I took him on in a fight.

I decided that I would attempt it (hey, it was worth a shot) and I waited patiently until he got within range to take from my jettison can. I’m pretty sure that Rackar had no intention of fighting and my surprise drone launch caught him off-guard as he didn’t even target me for a few seconds after I started to do damage.

At first, Rackar concentrated fire on my Hulk - which he was attempting to Warp Scramble, not knowing that I had a Stabalizer fitted that would allow me to escape if I had to. But, when he saw that I was eating away at his ship faster than he was mine, he switched to attacking my drones (which was the right thing to do - take out my guns, then with me scrambled - he thought - he’d be able to slowly pick me off while I was helpless).

One by one my drones exploded and as they did I launched another and another. By the time I came to my last drone Rackar knew his time had come and sent me “Good Fight” in the chat channel as his ship exploded. This was a real fight of attrition and it was a lot of fun.
