Mozzies don’t like my blood!
Why don’t Mosquitoes like my blood? Sheila and I went to a party last weekend out in Monee, Illinois (very much the countryside) and while everyone else was getting bitten, I had more of a problem with flies trying to eat my food before I could!
I kind of wonder if there is some sort of ‘taste’ to the local population that the local insects prefer, and because I am British, they decide against sucking my blood?
I must say I am kind of pleased, the Mozzies here carry the West Nile virus and in certain areas were found in as many as 20% of the insects tested. West Nile can be deadly, so I’d rather not contract it!
But that might change… Probably the more food I eat produced in locations over here, the more I assimilate into the culture, the more I will begin to have the same scent and pheromones as the locals. In any case, I squashed two mosquitoes against our bedroom wall the other night, they might just start biting me for self-preservation or if I start to get a bad reputation as an insect-squisher!
