Does anyone recognise this spider? I’ve never seen one of these before. Legspan was around 6-8 inches.

6 to 8 inches? Didn’t the UK go metric about 4 decades ago? :)
This sounds like what I’d call a “Daddy Longlegs” although in the link it looks like the legs are up to 5 cm long or 10 cm (4 inches) for total size.

Naa, we get hundreds of those “Daddy Longlegs”. This thing didnt have wings and it’s body was much smaller, but it’s legs longer. It’s not often I won’t squish a spider, but frankly I wasn’t going anywhere near this one. ;)
